Are EVs safe in Philippine floods?

What actually kills cars in a flood

It is almost never the water level alone, it is water pulled through the engine's air intake, which bends rods and hydrolocks the engine. An electric vehicle has no intake to drown. That single difference removes the classic flood failure entirely.

Sealed by design

EV battery packs are sealed and waterproof-rated, and the high-voltage system is built to shut itself off the moment a fault is detected. In BYD's case the Blade Battery is engineered to pass the nail-penetration test, one of the industry's harshest safety benchmarks.

Rainy-season charging

Charging in the rain is safe: charging equipment is built to ingress-protection ratings and the connection will not energize until the handshake between car and charger completes, rain or shine.

Common sense still applies

Deep or fast-moving water is dangerous for any vehicle, electric or not, because of currents, debris, and hidden road damage. If you would not walk it, do not drive it. And if you have been through serious water, drop by a service bay and let us check it over.
